I’ve been reviewing the social media trends for the past few weeks, and the OMxNAS saga has been brewing longer than one would have expected. Now.. This Is Not A Review, but OM could leverage this entire mess to her advantage. Prior to calling NAS out, if I was in OM’s social media strategy team, this is 1 of 3 ways, I would have constructed a response to the alleged copying if my clients work.

Whether or not to call out NAS publicly is a nuanced decision. Here are some considerations and a balanced approach to addressing the situation that could have been adopted by OM

Pros of Calling Out
1. Raising Awareness:

Bringing attention to the issue can raise public awareness and garner support from your followers.
2. Acknowledgment:

It could force NAS to acknowledge your work and give you credit.

3. Deterrence:

It may deter NAS and others from copying your work in the future.

Cons of Calling Out
1. Reputation Risk:

Publicly calling out NAS can come across as negative or unprofessional, “potentially” damaging your reputation.

2. Retaliation:

NAS might respond negatively, and their larger following could lead to backlash against OM.

3. Focus Shift:

The focus might shift from your original content and creativity to the drama of the confrontation.

Balanced Approach
1. Private Communication:

Start with a direct, private message to NAS, expressing your concerns and providing evidence of the copying. Politely ask for credit or for them to cease using your ideas without permission.
-Example Message: “Hi NAS, I’ve noticed that some of my original content has been appearing in your posts. While I’m flattered, I’d appreciate it if you could credit my work. Thank you for understanding.”

2. Public Assertion of Originality: Without directly accusing NAS, subtly assert your originality in your content.
   – Example Post: “Im so excited to see so many influencers inspired by my recent

. Here’s a little backstory on how I developed it… [detailed post of the original post].”

3. Positive Framing: Highlight your originality and creativity in a positive manner.
   – Example Post: “Proud to share my unique take on boba tea. Creativity and innovation are at the heart of my culinary journey. Thank you all for your support!”

4. Engage Your Community: Encourage your followers to share your original content, which can naturally highlight your contributions without direct confrontation.
   – Example Request: “If you’ve tried my boba tea , share your creations with #OMfromScratchInspired. I love seeing your interpretations!”

5. Legal Steps “if Necessary”: If the private communication and subtle public assertions don’t work, consider seeking legal advice. A cease and desist letter might be appropriate in some cases. With the right representation and a social media strategy management agency behind you, your agent can seek out what the laws are for you and how you can go about filing internationally.

By taking a measured approach, she can protect her work, maintain professionalism, and potentially turn the situation to her advantage by highlighting her originality and gaining support from her audience.
