South African shoppers can soon enjoy a wider selection of exclusive Walmart private label products and unique international items at Massmart-owned Game, Makro, and Builders stores.

Massmart, acquired by Walmart in 2011, is introducing a variety of private-label toys, snacks, baby care items, and bulk American breakfast cereals, previously available only in the United States. These new offerings aim to bring more variety and value to local consumers.

With 22 Makro stores, 107 Game outlets, and 104 Builders locations nationwide, the retailer’s extensive footprint ensures accessibility to these new products across South Africa.

According to Herman Venter, Massmart’s Chief Merchandise Officer, the expansion aligns with the company’s strategy to offer products that “resonate with local consumers” while maintaining competitive pricing. He highlighted the snack category as an area of significant potential, expecting strong demand from South African shoppers.

Beyond international imports, Massmart is also prioritizing local supplier partnerships The company will host a supplier summit in April, inviting South African and African manufacturers, assemblers, and growers to expand their reach through Massmart’s retail network. This initiative aims to support local businesses and increase the presence of African-made products on store shelves.

The introduction of Walmart’s private label products is expected to enhance affordability, offering high-quality essentials at competitive prices. Families can look forward to value-for-money bulk cereal options, while shoppers will have access to a broader range of household essentials and everyday necessities.

This expansion reinforces Massmart’s commitment to delivering diverse, high-quality products at accessible prices, ensuring South African consumers benefit from Walmart’s global supply chain and expertise.
