This is not a review, but it it was one, I think Castle Lager had and perhaps still has an opportunity to take full advantage of this very moment.
There is an image of Aiden Markram making the rounds on social media, my marketing brain sees this a pure cultural gold!… let me explain.
This image and quote from Aiden Markram, mid-celebration, beer in hand, surrounded by friends and fans is pure gold. It’s not just a great photo; it’s a moment. And in the context of Castle Lager’s sponsorship of the Proteas during the ICC World Test Championship Final, it’s a ready-made marketing gift.

Why This Moment is Powerful for Castle Lager and South African Cricket:
- It’s authentic: This isn’t a staged endorsement. It’s a raw, joyful, spontaneous celebration—exactly the kind of memory Castle Lager tries to associate itself with.
- It ties beer to heritage and victory: South Africa just played in the biggest Test match on the planet—and the image that captures the aftermath is not a trophy photo, but this moment of connection, beer, and joy.
- It’s deeply South African: School mates, chaos, casual language, humor, and unity—it’s got local flavour all over it.
If TINAR was Commissioned to curate a campaign for SAB, we would work it out in this way for maximum ROI returns:
“Castle Moments: Where Cricket Meets Us”
- Mini-campaign video: we would zoom in on Markram’s quote, overlay it with fan footage, add ambient stadium sounds, and Castle Lager branding, and we would end the mini video with something like “Castle Lager. For moments that matter.”
- Print or Social Poster: this is definitely where we would perform the most as TINAR : With the photo as the centerpiece, we would add the following headline: “Oh, here’s a beer.” and the Sub-text would be as follows : When chaos turns to calm, and victory tastes like home.
- Social Media Activation anchored by the Hashtag: #CastleCricketMoments
We would invite fans to share their post-match beers, their spontaneous sports joy, or “the moment someone handed you a beer and everything changed.”
This image could have been a slick opportunity for SAB to make their sponsorship of Proteas stand out even more with that sweet victory. This could also further gently reposition how beer is used in sports marketing, from the occasional overly masculine, hard-drinking branding to something more wholesome, friendship-driven, post-victory, and emotionally resonant.
That image is iconic. It’s celebratory without being arrogant. It’s nostalgic without being cheesy. And it reminds us that sport, at its best, is about the moments we share after the final ball is bowled.
I dont know, man…. Castle Lager should jump on this now… before the moment passes.
