This Mandela Day, CapeGate Shopping Centre is calling on the community to come together for a pawsitive cause. In partnership with The Dogbox Project, CapeGate is hosting a heartwarming initiative on Friday, 19 July, that invites shoppers, families, and pet lovers to lend a hand, or a paintbrush in supporting animals in need.

The Dogbox Project is a local non-profit that creates and distributes insulated wooden kennels to dogs living in townships, giving them shelter from the elements and a place to feel safe. On the day, participants will have the chance to decorate these kennels, which will then be donated to under-resourced communities.

It’s a simple yet impactful way to honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy, by dedicating your time to bring warmth, colour, and dignity to the lives of township dogs.

Here’s how you can be part of it:

• When: Friday, 19 July 2025
• Where: CapeGate Shopping Centre, Centre Court
• Time: Between 9am and 3pm
• What to expect: Painting kennels, learning more about animal welfare, and being part of something bigger

Join the movement and turn your 67 minutes into something meaningful. Bring your creativity, your compassion, and your community spirit. Let’s build a better world, one dogbox at a time.
