In December, we wrote about quiet.
We shared that This Is Not a Review had slowed down for the festive season, the rhythm and routine was paced, not because the work stopped mattering, but because the rest and reset season in South Africa is one that’s very important for sustainability. We published daily but paused on promotion and social media activities, watched the numbers soften, and treated the month as a learning period rather than a setback.

January offered a response.
As routines returned and attention recalibrated, so did our readership. January 2026 closed with just over 1,000 visits, more than tripling December’s total. What stood out most wasn’t only the increase itself, but how readers showed up.
Many of you returned through the archives, browsing, revisiting, and moving between pieces rather than reading a single article and leaving. Feature-length work gained traction. Older posts found new readers. The site behaved less like a feed and more like a library, explored at your own pace.

We share these numbers not to celebrate scale, but to stay honest about growth. From late last year, we committed to being transparent about TINAR’s monthly statistics because this platform is not being built in isolation. It’s being built with its readers, slowly, deliberately, and in public view. Growth here has never been about spikes or virality, but about consistency, curiosity, and return.

January clarified December. It reminded us that quieter months don’t mean disinterest. Sometimes, they mean pause. And that when attention returns, thoughtful media has a place. As we continue publishing daily and preparing for TINAR’s next chapter as a standalone digital magazine, we’ll keep sharing these moments with you, the quiet ones, the encouraging ones, and everything in between.

Thank you for reading, returning, and taking your time with the work, journaling, rhetoric, and most of all, thoughts and musings.
