We pay attention when strategy meets experience, and this week, that intersection lands at Volkswagen Group Africa. The group has appointed seasoned marketer Ryan Blumrick as the new head of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, effective from the beginning of February 2026. It’s a move that signals both continuity and ambition.
Blumrick brings close to two decades of experience within the Volkswagen ecosystem.

Since joining Volkswagen South Africa in 2006, he has built a career that stretches across markets and mandates, from leadership roles in sales and marketing at Audi South Africa, to shaping regional sales and marketing strategy at SAIC Volkswagen in Shanghai. Most recently, he served as marketing director for Audi Japan, sharpening his global perspective in one of the world’s most competitive automotive environments.

Now, that international insight returns home, as he steps into this role, Blumrick has outlined a clear focus: strengthening the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand across the continent, deepening customer-centricity, and translating global best practice into market-specific solutions for African countries.

The emphasis is not just on growth, but also on relevant growth.
Acting director of sales and marketing Niels Wichmann expressed confidence in the appointment, noting that Blumrick’s global experience and leadership will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in the African markets where the brand operates.

For us, the real headline is this: African markets are not passive recipients of global strategy, they are active participants in it. Appointments like this suggest that global experience, when paired with local nuance, remains one of the most powerful tools in modern brand building. We’ll be watching this growth closely.
