Discovery Health has partnered with Vira Health to launch the Stella menopause support app in South Africa, giving members access to personalised, evidence-based care during a life stage that’s often overlooked.

The app is available at no cost to Discovery Health Medical Scheme members aged 35 to 70. It offers tools tailored to the three phases of menopause: perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause, helping women better understand and manage symptoms that can impact both daily life and long-term health.

According to Discovery, the move reflects a broader shift toward more holistic, preventative healthcare. With 73% of its female members aged 35 and older (around 800,000 women), the need for accessible menopause support is clear.

Menopause can span up to a third of a woman’s life, yet remains underdiagnosed and under-supported. Beyond immediate symptoms, it’s also linked to increased risks of conditions like cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and mental health challenges, making early support and regular screenings essential.

There’s also a workplace impact. Many women experience menopause while stepping into leadership or advancing their careers, and unmanaged symptoms can affect productivity, absenteeism and long-term career decisions.

By introducing Stella locally, Discovery is positioning digital health tools as part of the solution, bridging gaps in care and giving women more control over how they navigate this stage of life.
