Cape Town Tourism is strengthening its global reach through a new partnership with Air France–KLM South Africa, signalling a continued push to grow visitor numbers and keep the city competitive in the international travel market.
The two parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at boosting long-haul travel, improving air access, and expanding Cape Town’s visibility across key global markets. This move comes as demand for travel to and from Cape Town continues to rise. Over the past three years, flight capacity has steadily increased, shifting the city away from a largely seasonal destination to one that attracts visitors year-round.

For travellers, this means more frequent flights, better route options, and easier access to the city. For the local economy, it translates into more spending across hospitality, retail, and tourism-linked businesses.
Cape Town Tourism says partnerships like this are critical to converting global interest into actual bookings. By working closely with international airlines, the city is able to reach more travellers, faster, while keeping itself top of mind in a crowded global tourism market.
From a broader city perspective, improved air connectivity is said to be directly tied to economic growth. The city suggests that more flights don’t just bring tourists, they support jobs, enable trade, and create opportunities for local businesses to benefit from increased foot traffic.
The partnership with Air France–KLM also focuses on creating more meaningful travel experiences, connecting visitors not just to Cape Town, but to a wider network of destinations across Europe and the Americas.
As competition between global destinations intensifies, Cape Town’s strategy is clear: collaboration over isolation. By aligning with major airline partners, the city is positioning itself as a well-connected, year-round destination, and suggests to be building a more resilient tourism economy in the process.
