The Impact Award recognises organisations whose strategies align business growth with sustainable development. Danone says its win places it ahead of other high-profile nominees, all of whom have made contributions in social impact and innovation across the continent.
Key initiatives include:
Environmental Stewardship: Danone has achieved a fifth consecutive Triple ‘A’ score from CDP for its efforts in climate change mitigation, forest preservation, and water security.
Community Engagement: The company has repurposed over 1 million yoghurt tubs into eco-friendly bricks, constructing libraries and classrooms in under-resourced South African communities.
Youth Empowerment: Through sponsorship of the Boxer Youth Leadership Programme, Danone supports leadership development among disadvantaged youth in South Africa and eSwatini.
Sustainable Practices: Danone Southern Africa has implemented regenerative agriculture practices among its farming partners and introduced energy-efficient systems in its Boksburg factory to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Educational Initiatives: The company has collaborated with 180 schools to promote recycling education and has contributed to building libraries stocked with books and resources, aiming to improve literacy rates.

This award underscores Danone’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its core operations, positively impacting both the environment and communities across the continent.
Danone concludes that the Africa CEO Forum Awards spotlight the leaders, companies and initiatives that are reshaping Africa’s economic landscape through responsible, forward-thinking action.
