Support Youth in Sports HERE

Now to the piece that’s been in the making for some time now...

Built off the heels of this July 2024 Blog and this June 2025 Blog here are 5 Tips for Community-Based Sports Clubs and Coaches to Promote Sports Participation in communities that need that extra helping hand.

  • 1. Leverage High-Profile Partnerships :
Drawing inspiration from Faf de Klerk and Cheslin Kolbe’s collaboration with L’Oréal Paris, Laura Wolvaardt partnering with Nivea, and the recent WTC Final Win, we are confident that community sports clubs can forge partnerships with local businesses and influencers to amplify their development. These partnerships can provide much-needed resources and visibility, helping to inspire and motivate young athletes to reach winning levels not only on the field of play but off the field too.
  • 2. Emphasize the Importance of Self-Care ,health care and Confidence:
Just as the L’Oréal Paris Men Expert campaign highlighted self-care, and the Nivea campaign highlighted determination in womens sports with self-care, coaches can stress the importance of looking after one’s body and mind. Much like the Women’s Empowerment workshop hosted by the CATCH Trust that covers a bit of self-health-care with their girls only workshop, integrating health, wellness, and grooming sessions can build confidence and self-respect among young athletes, encouraging them to take pride in their appearance and overall well-being, as that contributes to performance on and off the field.
  • 3. Create Empowering Campaigns:
Develop campaigns that celebrate empowerment, much like L’Oréal Paris celebrates the achievements of de Klerk and Kolbe. Highlight success stories from within the community and create platforms where young athletes can share their journeys, fostering a sense of pride and aspiration.
  • 4. Engage Families and the Community:
Involving families and the wider community in sports activities can enhance participation. Organize community events, fun runs, and sports days that encourage family involvement. The support and engagement of the community can provide a robust support system for young athletes.
  • 5. Establish Foundations and Support Networks :
Take a page from the Cheslin Kolbe Foundation by creating support networks that provide resources and opportunities for young athletes. This could include scholarships, equipment donations, and mentorship programs. Foundations can serve as pillars of support, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder talented young athletes from pursuing their passions.

By following these tips, community-based sports clubs and coaches can harness the power of collaboration and community to promote sports participation and foster a nurturing environment for young athletes in communities of need.
