In a heartening show of collective impact, Growthpoint Properties, through its G² (Growthpoint Gives) programme, and the Threads for iKasi Foundation partnered to deliver a powerful gesture of care to learners at Ikusasa Comprehensive School in Tembisa.

Fifty learners received full winter school uniforms in May 2025, thanks to a staff-led initiative that saw Growthpoint employees rally behind a cause close to their hearts. Each learner received a complete set that included a jersey, drymac, shirt and trousers, shoes, socks, and a winter beanie, all of which are essentials that do far more than fight the cold.

“This was not just a handover. It was a message to our children: we see you, we value you, and we believe in your potential,” said Principal Gladwell Makhoba. “For many of our learners, these uniforms are a symbol of belonging and a renewed sense of self-worth.”

Ikusasa Comprehensive is more than a school, it’s a symbol of hope in a community navigating daily challenges. Despite limited resources, it has achieved a remarkable 95.8% matric pass rate and aims even higher for 2025. Many of its students come from vulnerable backgrounds, including orphans and child-headed households.

Threads for iKasi, known for its work in restoring dignity to schoolchildren through clothing support, has been active in the area for several years. Co-founder Khabo Mnguni shared,

“This work is deeply personal. A uniform is more than attire, it’s a quiet promise of potential. Through this partnership with Growthpoint, we’re showing learners that their dreams matter.”

The initiative was sparked by a Growthpoint team member who connected the company with Threads for iKasi, bringing the needs of Ikusasa to light. It’s a perfect example of how employee-led action fuels the G² programme, which encourages all staff to participate in volunteer work with eight hours of paid time allocated annually.

“We’re proud of how our people lead with heart,” said Shawn Theunissen, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Growthpoint. “Our team saw a need, shared it with us, and helped deliver impact. Through partnerships like this, we continue building towards a South Africa where every child has a chance to thrive.”

One can not deny that at Growthpoint, community is not a checkbox, it’s a cornerstone. From warm uniforms to warm hearts, this collaboration is another stitch in a growing fabric of care, connection, and shared commitment.
