Oh, to exist a the world of sports and lifestyle is to see concepts come to life, even from a distance. I’m excited to share something I read this morning. The first-ever official Springboks retail store opened its doors on July 3, 2025, in the Protea Court of Sandton City in Johannesburg the store is owned and operated by the South African Rugby Union (SA Rugby). The initiative was driven by SA Rugby’s executive leadership as part of a broader strategy to protect the Springbok brand, counter counterfeit merchandise, and meet growing fan demand.

As far as i’ve picked up, the property lease is through Sandton City (owned by Liberty Holdings / Liberty Two Degrees), but the store is managed directly by SA Rugby as their official Springbok retail arm.

SA Rugby CEO, Rian Oberholzer and President Mark Alexander announced this as a formal step by the union to bring the Springbok brand under their control, including launching an online store alongside the physical one.

The store officially launched at 9 AM on July 3, inaugurated by notable figures, including Sport Minister Gayton McKenzie and Communications Minister Solly Malatsi.
