The Shimuzic Foundation, led by acclaimed DJ and philanthropist Ashley “Shimza” Raphala, has successfully delivered 3,000 pairs of school shoes to learners in need through its annual Hopeful Soles initiative. The 2026 handover took place at the Rabasotho Community Centre in Tembisa and reached 52 schools and children’s homes across Gauteng.

This year’s initiative reflects a significant increase in both reach and impact, benefiting children’s homes in Tembisa, as well as schools in Soweto and Mamelodi. The programme continues to play a critical role in supporting orphans and vulnerable learners as they prepare for the academic year, helping to remove part of the many barriers to school readiness and participation.

Funded through the Shimuzic Foundation, with additional support from proceeds raised at Shimza’s annual One Man Show on Christmas Day, Hopeful Soles demonstrates the power of collaborative, community-driven interventions that combine culture, enterprise and social impact.
Commenting on the initiative, Shimza noted that the programme extends beyond material support.

“Hopeful Soles is about restoring dignity and ensuring that every child can enter the classroom feeling confident, equal and ready to learn. As the need continues to grow, so too does our responsibility to respond in sustainable and scalable ways.”

We launch the TINAR digital magazine on February 10th, 2026. Join us in the journey ahead!

Now firmly established as an annual programme, Hopeful Soles forms part of the Shimuzic Foundation’s broader, long-term commitment to improving access to education support for under-resourced communities, particularly in and around Tembisa. The Shimuzic Foundation welcomes partnerships with corporates, brands, NGOs and individuals who share a commitment to investing in the future of South Africa’s children. Through strategic collaboration, the Foundation aims to expand its reach and deepen its impact across schools and communities nationwide.
